By choosing Defigo Connect, you choose a more sustainable option compared to alternatives and traditional intercoms. Here's how.
Sustainability is top of mind for many people these days. Not only are there new regulations being introduced all the time to help reduce the impact of the real estate industry on the environment, but it is becoming more of a consideration for tenants choosing which property they want to live and/or work in.
By choosing Defigo, you choose a more sustainable option compared to alternatives and traditional intercoms. We worked with Climate Point to precisely calculate the environmental footprint of Defigo. What they concluded was that, over the course of 12 months, Defigo contributes to 5.6 tons of CO2 being avoided in an average sized building, with most of these emissions coming from Scope 3 upstream and downstream - one of the hardest areas to improve emissions.
Here are some ways we help reduce your carbon footprint:
Traditional intercom systems require wiring from the entrance of the building, right through to each individual unit. In some cases, this can require thousands of metres of copper - a non-renewable resource.
In our modern day, we’ve largely moved away from cabled systems. For instance, very few people have a cabled home phone any more. When designing the Defigo system, we wanted to make it easy to use, easy to install and more sustainable overall, which is why we only have 3 short cables needed for the entire system to work.
30% of emissions from the real estate industry come from building materials & construction. Because of this, we wanted to find a way to reduce our impact on material production. While we cannot be completely emission free during the production process, we can reduce the waste we produce. This is why we reuse around 80% of components to make new systems once an Defigo system reaches its end of life.
One very easy way to reduce our impact on the environment is to use what already exists. This is why we have integrated Defigo with other existing access systems and made an API available to developers so that Defigo can be implemented alongside existing systems and doesn’t require replacing systems that continue to function well.
In addition to this, tenants can use the technology that they already own to access their building or let visitors in. For instance their smart phone or a landline phone.
Traveling between buildings to distribute keys, or ensure that new tenants have access to the building can use a significant amount of fuel over the course of a month or a year.
But with Defigo, Building Managers can grant tenants access online, from wherever they are in the world, at the touch of a button, eliminating the need to drive around.
